We recently went on an eight-day safari with Abacus Vacations. We were very pleased with our guide, Gerald. He was a great game spotter and very patient with the stops we wanted to make. We saw the Ziwa Rhino sanctuary, Murchison Falls, cruised the Nile, Kibale National Park, Queen Elizabeth Park, boat trip on the Kazinga Channel, Kalinzu Forest Reserve, Bwindi National Park and village tour and the Equator. I recommend all.
The first night we stayed at the Nile Safari Lodge. The food was excellent and the staff friendly. The only downside was the distance to the Nile crossing (an extra 1 1/2 hours drive round trip) and it was a little more rustic than the Parra Lodge (showers came from a bucket on the roof). The views were great and there was a definite feeling of being in Africa as opposed to a motel experience. My daughter had stayed at the Parra Lodge in 2012 and said the food at Nile Safari was much better.
We also stayed at the Kyaninga Game Lodge. It was built 2 years ago and was excellent. I wish we had booked 2 nights there so we could walk into the volcano and swim in the lake, rather than just viewing them from the top. The staff were excellent and the food delicious.
The last place I highly recommend is the Luxury Chameleon Hill Lodge. It was also excellent and our room attendant, Charles, was great. The food was delicious. My daughter and I enjoyed the village tour that was included.
This was a family vacation with 5 adults, 2 were vegetarian and enjoyed all the meals mentioned as well. We took a 9 day safari to Tanzania 2 years ago and it is hard not to compare the two countries. There was a greater volume of animals in Tanzania, but more different ones in Uganda...especially the chimps and gorillas. The food was much better in Uganda. Uganda definitely did NOT disappoint!!
