About Blue Sky Namibia Tours
We are a small company and our speciality is arranging tours for small groups (1 - 7 guests) of friends or family (older children welcome), who are interested in discovering what Namibia has to offer and who wish to travel together at a slower pace. Namibia is such a big country that it is senseless to try to see it all in week or ten days. If you do, you will spend most of the time on the road instead of relaxing and enjoying yourself. We will arrange any length of tour, at any time of year (our summer months are very hot) to suit your requirements. However, we can also accommodate larger groups of guests who have the same interests and wish to travel as a group because a larger vehicle can be hired. Tours are conducted in English, but you do not have to be English speaking, as long as there is one person amongst the group who can act as interpreter.About our safari vehicles
A new air-conditioned long-wheel base VW Transporter that can comfortably seat seven guests. Sliding windows have been fitted so that the guests can easily take photographs in the game reserves without having to get out of the vehicle.
Pieter and I are friends for more than 30 years. We met the first time in 1981 when I hitchhiked around Namibia. I returned to Namibia in 2003 with my family and did a safari with him. The family loved it.
Pieter has an extraordinary knowledge of the fauna and flora of Namibia. It is so interesting to listen to him, that it is difficult to leave him and Namibia. The fact that he does personalized safaris means that Pieter adjusts to the traveler and his curiosity. In his WW combi he stops whenever needed and explains the location and its fauna and flora. This is not "industrial" tourism so often practiced nowadays.
Pieter is also a very pleasant person to be with, always ready to help, and always with a smile. This makes any safari with him a human experience difficult to forget. I cannot recommend a better guide and travel companion to those who want to explore Namibia.

I am a very keen photographer and was attracted to Namibia by its dramatic scenery in particular Sossusvlei. The distances are huge and many of the roads not easy to drive on. Pieter was invaluable in putting together a tour for me that visited some of the less well known as well as acting as my driver and guide.
My husband and I had the most wonderful trip through Namibia with Pieter in July 2011. He is a most entertaining and informative tour guide/host, and nothing is too much trouble for him, as was evidenced when my husband (who was then 81) fell ill when we were in the middle of nowhere - somewhere near Sossusvlei. Pieter contacted his doctor in Windhoek, and then drove us back there to see the doctor. His wife, in the meantime, had booked us into a very nice bed & breakfast where we could stay while my husband recovered. Pieter continued to care for us by popping in regularly, and he re-arranged our itinerary, so that we were able to continue a few days later and still end up in the Augrabies Falls National Park in South Africa, as arranged.
If you have never travelled in Namibia, this is an absolute MUST. The scenery is spectacular.
The accommodation Pieter organised for us along the was consistently of a very high standard, as was the food.
I cannot recommend this tour-operator highly enough. He will customise an itinerary to meet your requirements and, as far as possible, your pocket. He will take you to off-the-beaten-track destinations, as well as the well-known tourist attractions.
There were many, many highlights, so I shall mention only a few: the farm visit in the Erongo Mountains, which included a visit to a Bushman (San) village and an outing on foot into the mountains with the San hunters; trips into the Namib Desert from Swakopmund; a light-aircraft flight over the Namib Desert from Swakopmund; a visit to a farm near Keetmanshoop where we were taken by the farmer to see fossils and quiver trees; the quite stupendous Fish River Canyon. Our 4 days in the Augrabies Falls National Park (in South Africa) were also truly memorable.
In 2011, Pieter organised a 3-week tour for my husband and me. We LOVED it. Pieter is a well-informed tour guide, and charming host. He is also a very caring person, which we experienced when my husband was taken ill, which necessitated returning to Windhoek for 4 days. Pieter organised the doctor and accommodation in Windhoek, and made the necessary re-arrangement, so that we could continue with our holiday when my husband recovered.
Namibia is a magnificent country, with incredible scenery. Our visit to the Namib desert near Swakopmund was especially memorable, as was our flight over the desert down as far as Sossus Vlei. The Fish River Canyon swas another highlight, as was our visit to a guest farm in the Erongo Mountains north of Windhoek. Our trip ended with a few days at the Augrabies Falls in South Africa.
Pieter drove us safely across all the distances we needed to cover. We never had a moment's anxiety while being driven about by him.
I cannot recommend a trip with him highly enough.
Pieter took my dad and myself on a tour through Namibia for a couple weeks, early 2013. He was very helpful before we even met, via email, in order for us to arrange the itinerary that best suited our interests.
I loved the pace of our travels and Pieter's flexibility: I never felt that we rushing to places, or that we couldn't afford to spend a bit more time somewhere, if we really liked it there. It's nice to have a plan, but it's also nice to have the freedom to adjust it as one goes ;-)
We stayed at great hotels, every night, the kind that fit our taste for authenticity, and ate well too. All the logistics were smooth, but really, what I most enjoyed was seeing so many animals, and our guide certainly was brilliant in finding them and pointing them out. He is also very much into photography, as is my father, so they met on that common ground and both enjoyed spending longer periods in a single spot, trying to get the best shots of elephants, giraffes, dunes, etc.
It was also a pleasure meeting his wife, Tessa, when they both took us out to dinner on our first night in Namibia. This immediately set the tone of a personal tour, where Pieter wasn't just a guide, and we weren't just customers. All throughout our tour, our conversations were enriching, as he has a very in-depth (bottomless!) knowledge of his country, on pretty much any level you can think of!
Thank you Pieter, for such a unique experience, and thank you Papa, for having been there to share it with me :-)
My wife and I went on a guided tour with Pieter a few years ago. The tour was very comprehensive, and Pieter was delightful and knowledgeable company. His enthusiasm for the country is hugely contagious, and he is an inexhaustible driver over great distances. Just the odd beer to refuel him after our long drives. Thoroughly recommended.
Pieter and Suzy led a phenomenal tour of Namibia. Having wanted to to visit since college 30 years ago, my expectations were high. The reality was so much better than anything I could imagine. The Namib Desert and sand dunes were spectacular. The sunrise balloon ride and breakfast simply unforgettable. For any geology buffs, the desert landscape, fault lines, rock layers and topography make this a visual paradise. The animals were amazing and everywhere. For most of us, the highlight was actually to witness a leopard stalk and kill in action. This event, unexpected and rare, was a dramatic and powerful reminder of the food chain in action. I'll be back
We spent two weeks in March of this year on a Safari tour in Namibia with Pieter and had a wonderful, memorable and informative trip. We stayed in a wide range of accommodation which were all great places to stay with wonderful hospitality everywhere we went. Pieter was very knowledgeable and gave us a wide range of experiences during our tour. We started in Windhoek and finished up at Victoria Falls. Our last evening was spent cruising on the Zambezi river at sunset whilst sipping g&t's. We saw a wide range of African animals in the wild and highly recommend visiting the Etosha national park. Thank you Pieter for a wonderful memorable trip. :)
If you have one safari to take in your life, Pieter Mostert's Blue Sky Namibia is the one to take. I've been on several safaris in Kenya and Tanzania, but never as instructive, fulfilling, and exciting as Pieter's. He is a naturalist who knows of what he speaks about the flora and fauna of Namibia.
In addition, he loves the country and takes great pride in telling people about its cultural and sociological fine points. I have a PhD in ethology so I consider myself qualified to comments on someone's knowledge of animal behavior. Pieter knows a great deal about that, and it's fun to talk with him. He's never pedantic and has a great sense of humor. He's also an indefatigable and excellent driver. My daughter and I never felt a moment's unease with him behind the wheel. And we drove 2600 km together! Pieter's wife, Tessa, is charming and they both make you want to come back to Namibia. In a nut shell, Pieter runs the best safari in town!
