About Gamewatchers Safaris

Gamewatchers Safaris is one of the longest established safari outfitters based in East Africa. We can offer you very competitive rates at all the leading safari camps and lodges in Kenya and elsewhere in Africa. See our list of camps and lodges in Kenya with our prices inclusive of all the costs, so there are no “hidden extras”. You book your international flight to Africa and from our base in Nairobi we take care of everything else for you, from arrival to departure. In addition to Kenya we arrange trips to Tanzania as well as to other leading destinations in Africa. Flexi-Booking Policy to take account of present Coronavirus situation: In view of the disruption to travel at the present time as a result of the Pandemic, we have introduced flexible booking terms so that once you have booked, should your future travel plans be affected by Coronavirus (COVID-19), you can amend your travel dates to be postponed until later with no penalty so long as the pandemic continues and if the situation warrants this.

About our safari vehicles

We offer a broad range of transport options. Road safaris can be based on special 6 seater safari minivans or 6 seater 4×4 vehicles. Both types have a pop-up roof or a roof hatch to allow for game-viewing and photography. Some camps (including Porini Safari Camps) operate their own specially-adapted open-sided 4×4 safari vehicles for airstrip transfers and game drives. All vehicles come with a professional and friendly driver-guide.

The very best part of our safari at the two Porini Camps we visited were our guides Jeffrey and Joel at Masai Mara Porini Camp. The two are brothers and just the dearest and most wonderful individuals you could ask to go on safari with. Incredibly knowledgeable and attentive, but ever so humble and observant. They were soft spoken but engaging in numerous ways. Both of them worked incredibly well with our group of 6, most of whom were extended family, and they cared deeply to gauge our interactions and sense of humor and overall tenor to see how best to facilitate an incredible time. Jeffrey and Joel were funny and kind and insightful and subtle, to say nothing of their wealth of knowledge. Jeffrey was a careful and skilled driver and both were flexible with plans so that when we wanted to go on a walking safari instead of driving, they quickly changed plans for us.
We would return just to be with them again!

We didn't want to go on a standard group "tour" of southern Africa so we hooked up with Gamewatchers, who created a bespoke safari for my wife and I, my daughter, and her boyfriend. Our agent, Wayne Hammond, who is himself a seasoned African safari photographer, patiently assessed our needs and booked us into four venues__Ilala lodge in Vic Falls to start, then off to the bush and flood plains at Chobe Elephant Camp, Rra Dinare, and Splash Camp, the latter two in the Okavanga Delta. Everything was set up perfectly and each camp had its unique charms and terrain. The small aircraft transfers were right on schedule and we were expected, welcomed, and well cared-for in each camp. A lot of trust is required in booking these trips, and Gamewatchers delivered 100 percent. We felt the warm embrace of May in Botswana, an experience we will never forget.

I don't think you need to spend a ton of cash for five-star luxury. We went for mostly the mid-level camps which were comfortable, charming, and intimate, and which placed us very close to the environment we were seeking. The open-air vehicles were awesome and our guides and trackers, all local villagers, were incredibly skilled and knowledgeable and showed a genuine love for the world we were exploring. We were blown away by all the game we saw, the amazing stars, the vast terrain of the delta and Chobe national park, and the wonderful people who hosted us. In short, we wouldn't have changed a thing.

My wife and I did our first Safari in October 2014. I did moderate research and it seemed Gamewatchers met all our needs. Their camps are ecologically friendly with power derived from solar panels. If we had no electricity at two AM, it was our fault for wasting what we had. The camps were all located away from other camps, so we could have the illusion of being the only ones in the wilderness. We slept in large tents (larger in size than my first house) that were attractively outfitted. The staff all seemed happy, helpful, and genuine.
I think being able to hang out with the African people (Masai) was my best memory of the trip. The Masai would drive the Landrovers and mid-morning we would stop for tea while watching wildlife and pass the time discussing politics and our respective life view. We saw lots of animals and at much closer range than we would have anticipated. One of the highlights was going out for a sunset drive. The driver would stop 10 feet from a pride of lions and we would drink beer and gin and tonics as we watched the sunsets (and drowned our fear of the lions with alcohol). All the game drives were with two or four tourists, not in crowded vans. The guides were capable, smart and fun.
If I go again, I will use Gamewatchers. There might be better, but why take the chance.
