Recommended vaccinations
Hepatitis A
Hepatitis A is a liver disease caused by the hepatitis A virus. The virus is primarily spread when an uninfected (and unvaccinated) person ingests food or water that is contaminated with the feces of an infected person. The disease is closely associated with a lack of safe water, inadequate sanitation and poor personal hygiene. Every year there are an estimated 1.4 million cases of hepatitis A worldwide. Hepatitis A vaccines are given in two doses. Anyone two years of age or older may receive the first dose. The timing of the second dose depends upon which manufacturer’s vaccine is administered. Both hepatitis A vaccines have pediatric and adult formulations.

MMR
Measles, mumps and rubella are highly infectious viruses that can have serious complications, including meningitis, swelling of the brain (encephalitis) and deafness. They can also lead to complications in pregnancy that affect the unborn baby and can lead to miscarriage. As a general rule, adults born before 1957 are considered immune to measles and mumps. For many adults born in 1957 or afterward, the MMR vaccine is advised. Most people who receive the MMR vaccine will have no problems from it. Others may have minor problems, such as soreness and redness where the shot was given, or fevers. Serious problems from receiving the MMR are rare.

Tetanus
Tetanus (Lockjaw) is caused by toxin-producing spores of a bacterium, Clostridium tetani that inhabit the soil and the bowels of animals and humans. When they enter a deep flesh wound, spores of the bacteria may produce a powerful toxin, tetanospasmin, which actively impairs motor neurons, nerves that control muscles. The tetanus toxin causes severe muscle contractions, or spasms. Fever, sweating, elevated blood pressure, and rapid heart rate may also occur. A multitude of tetanus vaccines are available.

It is recommended to get vaccinated at least a month prior to departure. Upon receiving the vaccination, patients will receive a certificate that is good for 10 years. Highlights
- Tanzania is home to Kilimanjaro: the highest mountain in Africa
- Home to the Lake Victoria: the largest lake in Africa
About Tanzania
The largest country in east Africa, Tanzania offers something for every outdoor and nature enthusiast. Tanzania is a land of superlatives. Firstly, it is home to the highest mountain on the African continent—Mount Kilimanjaro. Secondly, it is home to the biggest lake in Africa—Lake Victoria. Lastly, Tanzania is also home to one of the mightiest parks, the stunning and untamed Serengeti National Park, where literally millions of herbivores make an annual migration in their endless quest for lush, green grass. In only a few short hours one can witness thousands of wildebeest, zebras and antelope on their interminable clockwise journey. As if this wasn’t enough, Tanzania is also home to Ngorongoro Crater. Ngorongoro Crater is a stunning volcanic caldera that is a conservation area and also a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Although the crater floor is limited in size, it is home to a wealth of animals including the endangered black rhino.
In the south lies the Selous Game Reserve, an area of diverse wildlife that is larger in size than the country of Switzerland. Here guests can enjoy walking safaris and boat safaris along the lovely Rufiji River. In the west lies the smallest of Tanzania's national Parks - Gombe Streams. This small park packs a big punch as it is home to an impressive number of primates, including the following: chimpanzees, olive baboons and vervet monkeys.
Tanzania has more to offer once the safari is over. For those seeking pristine beaches and crystal clear, warm waters, the beaches of Zanzibar are a diver’s and snorkeler's paradise. It is also possible to do a spice tour and see where spices such as black pepper, cinnamon, clove, nutmeg and vanilla grow.
Tanzania is an excellent safari destination for first-time safari-goers or safari veterans. It is politically stable and has a good infrastructure of safari lodging options that, while perhaps being slightly lower in standards than those of the southern African countries, are also slightly lower in price.
