Safari summary

This 6 days Kilimanjaro trekking via umbwe route is one of the shortest routes to the Southern Glaciers and the Western Breach and its the most challenging route on Mt Kilimanjaro. Approaching from the south, the Umbwe route is a short, steep and direct climb. It is probably the most scenic, non-technical route on Kilimanjaro. It is quite taxing, primarily due to the relatively fast ascent to higher altitude, but the rewards are plentiful.

Hiking Distance and Duration
The Umbwe Route covers a total hiking distance of approximately 53 kilometers or 32 miles. While the shortest duration for the Umbwe Route is 5 days, when considering arrival and departure days, the overall journey spans around 9 to 10 days. The route's shorter and steeper nature calls for meticulous preparation and acclimatization. Adequate time should be dedicated to ensuring your body adjusts to the altitude, improving your chances of successfully reaching the summit.

Summit Success Rate
The success rate for the Umbwe Route is relatively low due to its steepness and limited acclimatization opportunities. While official statistics are not available, the average success rate across various operators is approximately 70%. However, our team boasts an impressive summit success rate of over 90% for trekkers who choose the Umbwe Route. This achievement is a testament to our careful planning, experienced guides, and thorough understanding of the challenges this route presents.

Optimal Trekking Time
The period from July to September is considered the prime time to conquer the Umbwe Route. During these months, the weather tends to be most stable, minimizing the chances of encountering rain. However, due to Kilimanjaro's proximity to the equator, it's possible to embark on this adventure at any time of the year. It's important to avoid the rainy season in April and May, as the precipitation can add to the challenges of the already demanding route.
