Safari summary
Bwindi Impenetrable National Park is located in South-Western Uganda, on the edge of
the Great Rift Valley. Bwindi is home to over 350 endangered gorillas. Ape adventure is
one of the greatest tourism contributions to the economy of Uganda and Rwanda.
Mountain gorillas which are quite possibly the most awe-inspiring animals to be found in
Africa. There are also 346 species of birds and over 200 species of butterflies. Gorilla
tracking is the major tourist activity in Bwindi with four groups currently available daily
for tourists. The Mubare group (ten members, one silverback) was opened for tourism in
1993, and the Habinyanja group (eighteen members, two silverbacks) was ready in July
1998. The Rusheguru group (ten members, one silverback) was opened in July 2002,
while the Nkuringo group (nineteen members, two silverbacks) was opened for tourism
in April 2004. More groups have been habituated in the past few years creating
opportunity for more tourists to trek per day.
You get the chance to trek and follow the gorillas first hand with experienced and
knowledgeable game rangers. This Safari is challenging, therefore a certain amount of
physical fitness is required but is very rewarding when you finally meet face to face with
the big primates.
