MACHAME ROUTE 6 DAYS PRIVATE TREK OVERVIEW

The Machame Route is one of the most popular routes for climbing Mount Kilimanjaro, the highest peak in Africa. It is also known as the “Whiskey Route” due to its more challenging nature compared to the easier Marangu Route, which is often referred to as the “Coca-Cola Route.” The Machame Route is favored by many climbers for its stunning scenery and higher success rates in reaching the summit.

CHALLENGES OF THE MACHAME ROUTE

Steeper and More Challenging Terrain: The Machame Route is known for its steep and rugged terrain, especially as climbers ascend towards the summit. This can be physically demanding and requires good physical fitness and mental determination.

Crowded Campsites: Due to its popularity, the Machame Route can get crowded during peak climbing seasons. This can impact the overall experience for climbers, especially at campsites where space may be limited.

SUCCESS OF THE MACHAME ROUTE

Higher Success Rates: Despite its challenges, the Machame Route boasts higher success rates in reaching the summit compared to some other routes on Mount Kilimanjaro. The longer duration of the route allows for better acclimatization, increasing climbers’ chances of successfully reaching Uhuru Peak.

This “up-and-down” day allows hikers to acclimatize better and helps prevent altitude sickness. Along the way, hikers will encounter unique landscapes such as the Barranco Wall and see breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding mountains

The fourth day starts with a steep climb up the Barranco Wall, which involves using hands and feet in some sections. After conquering the wall, hikers continue through the alpine desert zone to Karanga Camp (4,040m/13,250ft). This day offers fantastic views of Kibo Peak and Mawenzi Peak.

Barafu Camp to Uhuru Peak to Mweka

Kilimanjaro

The final day of the Machame route starts with a grueling midnight climb to Stella Point (5,756m/18,885ft) on the rim of the Kibo crater. From there, hikers continue along the crater rim to Uhuru Peak (5,895m/19,340ft), the highest point in Africa. After celebrating their achievement, hikers descend back to Barafu Camp for a short rest before continuing to Mweka Camp (3,100m/10,200ft) in the rainforest zone.
