Marangu Gate to Mandara Hut

Marangu Gate (1,860m/6,100ft) to Mandara Hut (2,700m/8,858ft) After registration at Marangu Gate, the trek begins through lush rainforest, home to various flora and fauna. The trail ascends steadily, with occasional glimpses of Kilimanjaro's summit. After approximately 4-6 hours of hiking, you'll reach Mandara Hut for overnight accommodation.

Mandara Hut to Horombo Hut (3,720m)

Leaving the rainforest behind, the trail continues through heath and moorland zones. You'll encounter stunning views of Mawenzi Peak and the surrounding landscape. After around 5-7 hours of hiking, you'll arrive at Horombo Hut for an overnight stay.

Acclimatization Day at Horombo Hut

This day is dedicated to acclimatization, allowing your body to adjust to the increasing altitude. You can explore the area around Horombo Hut or take a short hike to Zebra Rocks for panoramic views of the mountain.

Horombo Hut to Kibo Hut

The trail ascends steadily, passing through the "Saddle" between Mawenzi and Kibo Peaks. You'll witness the dramatic change in landscape as you enter the alpine desert. After approximately 6-8 hours of hiking, you'll reach Kibo Hut, the final base camp before the summit attempt.

Summit Attempt - Horombo Hut

Kibo Hut to Uhuru Peak (5,895m/19,341ft), descent to Horombo Hut The summit attempt begins in the early hours of the morning, ascending steep scree slopes and rocky terrain. As the sun rises, you'll reach Gilman's Point (5,681m/18,638ft), located on the crater rim. From here, the trail to Uhuru Peak is less steep but requires endurance. Upon reaching Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa, you'll celebrate your achievement before beginning the descent to Horombo Hut.

Kilimanjaro

The final descent takes you through the rainforest, retracing your steps back to Marangu Gate. Upon reaching the gate, you'll receive certificates of achievement before bidding farewell to Kilimanjaro and transferring back to Arusha.
