In the morning, we will pick you up from your hotel in Moshi or Arusha for an enriching day trip. You’ll embark on a scenic two-and-a-half-hour drive along the slopes of West Kilimanjaro to a Maasai village near Tingatinga. Upon arrival, you’ll be greeted with a refreshing drink by the Maasai villagers and the Village Chief, who will make you feel welcome.

As you explore the village, your Maasai guide will share insights into the daily life and traditions of the Maasai people. The Maasai are a semi-nomadic ethnic group known for their distinctive customs, including their vibrant red clothing and elaborate beadwork. Traditionally, they live in bomas, which are circular homesteads made from mud and cow dung, surrounded by a protective fence to keep livestock safe from predators.

You’ll learn about their unique pastoral lifestyle, centered around raising cattle, which are central to their economy and culture. The Maasai value their cattle highly, not just as a source of food but also as a symbol of wealth and status. Their diet traditionally includes meat, milk, and blood from cattle, though today’s diet may also include other foods.

Experience a taste of Maasai culinary traditions by sampling a traditional tea (chai) prepared over a wood fire. This tea is often enjoyed with locally made bread or snacks. You’ll also be treated to a lunch featuring a variety of local dishes that highlight the Maasai’s flavorful and resourceful cuisine.

After a day of cultural immersion and learning about the Maasai way of life, we will drive you back to your hotel in Moshi or Arusha in the afternoon, concluding a memorable and insightful visit to a vibrant Maasai village.
