Safari summary
The Serengeti National Park is a massive and incredibly important protected area in Tanzania. Here's a summary of what makes it so special:
Vast and diverse: It's huge, covering nearly 15,000 square kilometers, and includes everything from wide-open grasslands to woodlands and rivers. This variety of habitats supports a huge range of animals.
The Great Migration: This is the park's most famous feature. Every year, over 1.5 million wildebeest, along with zebras and gazelles, travel across the Serengeti in search of food and water. It's one of the most spectacular wildlife events on Earth.
Abundant wildlife: The Serengeti is home to an incredible number of animals. You'll find the "Big Five" (lions, leopards, elephants, buffaloes, and rhinos), as well as cheetahs, giraffes, hyenas, and many other fascinating creatures.
Important for conservation: The Serengeti is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a vital area for protecting endangered species like the black rhino and the African wild dog.

Itinerary
Arrival in Arusha
Fly into Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) near Arusha. Meet your safari guide and transfer to your chosen accommodation in or near the Serengeti. The drive can take several hours, so relax and enjoy the scenery. Depending on your arrival time, you might have time for a short game drive in the late afternoon.
Central Serengeti (Seronera area)
This is a prime wildlife viewing area, with the Seronera River attracting a variety of animals. Enjoy morning and afternoon game drives, searching for lions, leopards, cheetahs, hyenas, and the many herbivores that roam the plains. Keep an eye out for the "Big Five" (lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo, and rhino). Consider a night game drive for a unique perspective on nocturnal wildlife.
Exploring the Serengeti
Depending on the time of year, you might choose to explore different areas of the Serengeti. If the Great Migration is in the area, you could witness the wildebeest herds crossing the Grumeti River (May-July) or the Mara River (July-October). Alternatively, you could head to the northern Serengeti for its remote beauty and diverse wildlife. Your guide will tailor the day to maximize your wildlife viewing opportunities.
Southern Serengeti
If you're visiting during the calving season (January-March), the southern Serengeti is the place to be, with thousands of wildebeest giving birth. The Western Corridor offers a chance to see the resident wildlife and perhaps catch the tail end of the wildebeest migration. Enjoy more game drives, exploring different habitats and searching for specific animals you haven't seen yet.
Departure
Enjoy a final morning game drive in the Serengeti. Transfer back to Arusha for your onward flight, or consider extending your safari with a visit to another park like Ngorongoro Crater.
