Safari summary
This tour combines game viewing, scenery, hiking and wildlife conservation success story. Although we will combine with Etosha National Park experience, south of Etosha are large farms located in hilly, well-watered highlands. Most of them have diverted from cattle ranching in favor of game to become game farms that welcome tourists, for example Okonjima. The Waterberg Plateau Park is more of its hiking trails, birding, scenery and feeling of wilderness than for its game-viewing. The park is on a plateau of compacted sandstone that was formed about 180 million years ago and is the remnant of a much larger plateau that once covered the whole area. This park has become an integral part of some conservation efforts. There has been relocation of endangered species including white rhino, roan and sable antelopes. These have added to game originally found that ranges from giraffe, kudu, leopard, brown hyaena, cheetah among others. Etosha is a 22 270 km2 park with 114 mammal species and over 350 bird species. The AfriCat Foundation lies on Okonjima Nature Reserve. Founded in 1993 and lying on the Namibian Central Plateau, the AfriCat Foundation is primarily dedicated to conservation of large carnivores. The Foundation lies on a 22000-hectare Okonjima Private Game Reserve. Before lunch, you will visit the center and learn more about Namibia’s carnivores and their fight for survival and the Human-Wildlife Conflict challenges that face both man and carnivore. Both Okonjima and AfriCat are dedicated to creating conservation awareness through environmental education at all ages and levels, rehabilitation and reintroduction programmes, and conducts constructive wildlife research.

Itinerary
Waterberg Plateau Park
Your guide will pick you up either from the airport or accommodation in Windhoek. We will drive to Waterberg Plateau Park. In the afternoon, we will embark on a nature hike up the Waterberg Plateau with some incredible views up the mountain. Over 200 species of birds have been recorded and more spectacular are the Verreaux's (Black) Eagles, and Namibia's only breeding colony of Cape Vultures. Let us enjoy some rare birds during the hike.
Waterberg Resort
Waterberg Plateau Park
Today, we will embark on morning and afternoon game drives. Besides breathtaking scenery, the Waterberg Plateau Park is home to over 25 mammalian species with rare antelopes such as roan and sable, Cape Buffalo and Tsessebe occur in large numbers. The vegetation changes dramatically from acacia savannah at the foot of the plateau to lush, green sub-tropical dry woodland with tall trees and grassy plains at the top.

Eastern Etosha National Park
Etosha
After breakfast, we will drive to the Eastern part of Etosha National Park. This part of the park has relatively higher rainfall compared to the other parts, hence has natural waterholes which differ in both appearance and geology in form of artesian, water-level and contact springs. We will embark on an afternoon game drive.
Namutoni Resort
Eastern Etosha National Park
Etosha
We have a full day game drive today. Mammals include huge herds of zebra, springbok, blue wildebeest, black-faced impalas among other antelopes. This implies the subsequent predators including lions, leopard, cheetah, spotted and brown hyaenas are not too far away. Over 340 birds have been recorded, including uncommon members of the hawk and vulture families.
Namutoni Resort
Southern Etosha National Park
Etosha
Today, we have a full day game drive driving from the eastern side to the southern side of the park. Our accommodation is outside the park closer to our next destination. Etosha is special because of the concentration of waterholes that occur around the southern edges of the pan. We will drive and check waterholes all day long, as they change from natural springs to artificial.
Toshari, Mondjila, Etosha Safari Lodges
Okonjima Nature Reserve
Upon arrival at Okonjima, we will visit the AfriCat Centre on a guided tour, with chances of seeing their ambassador cheetahs. In the afternoon, we will go for leopard tracking around the reserve. Using a radio receiver, your local guide will track one of the reserve's wild leopards as you move around the reserve in a safari vehicle.
Okonjima Plains Camp
Windhoek
After breakfast, we will drive to Windhoek. Depending on your flight times, you may either catch a flight back or stay in Windhoek at an accommodation establishment of your choice. This marks the end of your Central Plateau Tour.
Accomodation of your choice at own cost
