Days 3 and 4 - Luwi Bushcamp After two nights at Chinzombo you will be driven deep into the National Park to Luwi Bushcamp. Described as Africa’s last real bush camp, wonderfully rustic and authentic, Luwi is set in the shade of large trees close to a permanent lagoon. The four rooms at Luwi have dry grass walls and thatched roofs with en-suite bathrooms open to the trees and stars above. Your safari guide will introduce you to the armed escort scout who will accompany you on your first real walking safari. The guide will take time to point out the tracks and signs that he uses to interpret the bush. Your first night in the bushcamp is likely to be accompanied by the noises of animals around camp. When day breaks, your guide will interpret the calls that kept you awake as you head out together and pick up the fresh tracks of a pride of lion or investigate the alarm calls of the local troop of baboon. This is no nature trail - this is the real thing - you are tracking big game through the African bush, on foot like the first Luangwa pioneers. Luwi Camp, nestled in the shade of huge mahogany trees, is close to a permanent hippo and croc filled lagoon. It is situated deep in the heart of the National Park, on the dynamic seasonal Luwi River after which it is named - the area is extremely remote with no other camps or people for many miles around. Luwi is an authentic and magical remote bush camp, which makes it the perfect camp for walking safaris. The wildlife in the area is prolific and memories of the experience of tracking big game on foot last a lifetime. Walks can be complemented by game drives and explorations upriver to discover the source of the Luwi or to find the elusive Roan antelope or reed buck, eland and hartebeest which are almost never see in other parts of the Park. The rooms, which are built each season using natural materials, blend into the bush and are simple yet extremely comfortable with en-suite bathrooms and “all day” hot showers. With the emphasis on the use of natural materials in its construction, this camp is one of the most traditional of all of the Luangwa safari camps but still offers high levels of comfort and service.

Days 7 and 8 - Kakuli Bushcamp The next move takes you further down the Luwi River, again on foot or by 4x4 game viewer if you prefer, to its confluence with the main Luangwa River and to Kakuli Camp. This camp is tented and has stunning views along a stretch of the Luangwa that is home to over five hundred hippo. Each of the four large Mehru style tents has a spectacular river view. Much of the gameviewing is still on foot although there are more game viewing tracks in this area so it is possible to use vehicles and with a dense population of leopards in the area the night drives are usually most rewarding. Known as the Luangwa River lodge, Kakuli is a tented bush camp with spectacular views on the banks of the Luangwa River, which makes for perfect Zambian safari accommodation. It is the only true bush camp open for the green season. Kakuli means old buffalo bull - this beautiful camp has four traditional walk-in safari tents each with en-suite bathrooms made with natural materials. The bar and dining chitenje (lounge) is constructed of reed and thatch forming the centre point of camp. The entire camp is on an elevated stretch of riverbank overlooking a wide grazing lawn, which follows the Luangwa River until it meets the confluence of the Luwi River. A lovely thatched chitenje acts as the centre of camp. It is on a wooden deck overlooking the grazing lawn that leads down to the two rivers and is a perfect spot in which to relax and watch the wildlife meander by; the views from Kakuli are spectacular. This area of the Park is renowned for offering guests some of the best game viewing opportunities in Zambia. African Safari activities from Kakuli can be a mixture of game drives and walking safaris; guests are able to decide each day if they want to venture out on foot or with the vehicle.

Day 11 – Departure Day Transfer to Mfuwe Airport for your flight out of the valley to connect with your international flight back to the UK.  Alternatively extend your safari to Victoria Falls or the Lower Zambezi National Park. 2016 safari includes: Meet and Greet at Lusaka Airport, accommodation, internal flights, bar at bushcamps (including spirits, wine, beer), meals, laundry, transfers, game viewing activities, local taxes, National Park Fees and VAT.
