Kafue

Day 3-5:  We move from Mukambi loge to their bush camp, situated in the northern heart of the Kafue reserve. The Busanga plains are a floodplain of waters from the Kafue River. In this season, the water recedes away, leaving lush grazing for the grazers. The large numbers of grazers then attract the predators, a perfect scenario for excellent viewing and inter action. Busanga’s game numbers during these dry times are legendary and one can expect to see large herds of buffalo, puku, impala and elephant. It is also one of the best places to see the elusive sitatunga. Accommodation will be at the bush camp, a beautiful camp within a grove of trees overlooking the plains. Here you will be staying in meru styled tents. Each tent is a walk in affair with solid beds and en suite facilities ensuring relaxing comfort. We will stay at this camp for three nights. There is no electricity at this camp. The remote Busanga plains are one of Zambia’s best-kept secrets meaning the area is lacking in tourists. This is a real highlight of the area- having the open plains all to yourself, with all manner of wild animals around your is a beautiful experience. . .

South Luangwa

Day 8 – 10:  We transfer by road to Lusaka from where we catch a scheduled, 1-hour flight to Mfuwe. Nestled deep within the rift valley of Zambia lies a reserve that combines some of the best wildlife viewing in Africa with a setting as unique as it is wildlife is diverse. South Luangwa, with the Murchison escarpment on its eastern border and the Luangwa River to the west is a reserve that conjures up scenes of classic Africa. It has all the romanticism of adventure and exploration from day’s gone bye; but today it is the wildlife that is the main attraction- the wildlife and Luangwa River. During the rainy season, the reserve is a veritable marshland of mud and elephant damaged roads- almost impassable. However, during the dry season, the languidly meandering Luangwa river dries up, forming pools of water, ox-bow lakes and dead-end tributaries- and it is these pools of water in the high woodland which produce such stunning wildlife viewing. South Luangwa hosts large populations of elephants, buffalo, hippopotamus and (Thornycrofts) giraffe. Leopard and Lion are exceptionally well represented- indeed; South Luangwa is touted as having one of the highest densities of leopard in Africa. Birds are also a major attraction in Luangwa- with over 420 species recorded. The highlight of the birding experience here is seeing the various storks and herons flocking to feed on the fish in drying pools. Mfuwe Lodge is famous for its elephants walking trough the reception area, but it is also well known for its simple, open style planning and luxurious chalets. From the comfort of the Lodge guests may view some of Africa’s majestic wildlife as animals come down to drink. Elephant, hippopotamus, many antelope species and crocodiles are plentiful in this area. In between game drives, walks and meals, guests may relax around the pool or in the unique library which is entirely dedicated to nature conservation related issues, African culture, tradition and history. One third of each chalet’s perimeter can be opened, to allow the guest to enjoy the views, the sounds, the scents and the mood of the African wilderness. Each chalet has a large private deck overlooking one of the lagoons. The bathrooms have both bath and shower, with separate toilet. The bathing corner can be completely opened to offer guests an open-air bathing experience. . .

Day 12:  After a morning spent around the falls, we transfer back to Lusaka. Here, after 12 glorious days in excellent safari country, the tour comes to an end. You board your (evening) international flights home and this is unfortunately the end of the safari.
