Day 1

Murchison Falls

Day 1 Kampala – Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary – Murchison Falls National Park You’ll leave Kampala (07:00) by road via Masindi road heading to West Nile. The drive to Masindi town is approximately 6 hours and you’ll take a detour to the Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary to see rhinos in Nakitoma – Nakasongola. Lunch will be served at 14:00 at Masindi hotel, the oldest hotel in Uganda built in 1923 by the now defunct East Africa Railways and Harbours Company. Ernest Hemingway was involved in two plane crashes at Murchison Falls and Butiaba airstrip, within the space of one week. Hemingway recovered at Masindi Hotel. Humphrey Bogart and Katharine Hepburn stayed at Masindi Hotel whilst filming The African Queen at Masindi Port After lunch, you’ll proceed to Murchison Falls National Park. In the evening you’ll check into Fort Murchison for dinner and much needed rest after the long journey. Fort Murchison is situated in the formerAswa Lolim Game reserve, just outside the northern park boundaries of Murchison Falls National Park. The lodge is a mere 5 km from Tangi gate, just off the main Karuma-Pakwach road.

Day 2

Murchison Falls

Day 2 Murchison Falls National Park Following breakfast (08:00) you’ll go for a morning game drive in the northern circuit of the park. Murchison Falls National Park lies at the northern end of the Albertine Rift Valley, where the sweeping Bunyoro escarpment tumbles into vast, palm-dotted savannah. First gazetted as a game reserve in 1926, it is Uganda’s largest and oldest conservation area, hosting 76 species of mammals and 451 birds. In the open savannah grasslands you’ll encounter giraffes, hartebeest, buffalo, elephants, lions and many other animals. For the birding enthusiast, these areas support the secretary bird, black chested snake eagle, tawny and marshal eagles, carmine and swallow tailed bee-eaters. This is a beautiful drive across borassus palm forest and grassland savannah down to Lake Albert where the Albert Nile heads north to the Sudan. After lunch at Fort Murchison, you’ll take a boat trip to the bottom of the Murchison falls where the Nile bursts through a 7m gap or downriver to the delta where the Nile empties into Lake Albert. The banks of the Nile are home to many species. You may see huge Nile crocodiles, big groups of hippos and other wildlife that may come down to drink from the river. After the cruise you’ll head back to the lodge for dinner and rest.

Day 3

Day 3 Gone Fishing Have breakfast at about 07:00, grab your lunch, equip yourselves with fishing rods, reels, lines, hooks and bait and take a boat trip to a fishing spot point close to the base of the Murchison falls. The boat trip in itself is another wildlife adventure with lots wildlife to savor including hippos, crocodiles, buffalos and a cocktail of birds. The fishing is done from the fishing boats at certain spots that are free from crocodiles and hippos.

Day 4

Day 4 Budongo Forest – Kampala After breakfast at around 08:00, cross the river and head to Budongo forest to see chimpanzees and other primates and indulge in a nature walk before driving to Kampala.
